“Why a Former Student-Athlete Will Be Your Best Employee.”
From 1977-1986 19 quarterbacks played for Coach Fred Akers. Five started a combined 99 games- Donnie Little, Rob Brewer, Randy McEachern, Todd Dodge, and Bret Stafford. The other 14 quarterbacks were part of 41 combined games. ( Danny Akers, Donovan Forbes, Mark Murdock, James Saxton, Rick McIvor, Rob Moerschel, James Lott, Bob Lllljedahl, Doug Hadley, Rob McManis, Mark McBath, Jon Aune, Sam Ansley, and Shannon Kelley) Some never started; others played anywhere from 2 to 14 games.
Each quarterback has a story to tell, and each story is different. However, all share a brotherhood of self-doubt, injuries, wins, losses, promotions, demotions, and the ability to adjust through challenging psychological and mental attacks on their self-confidence. The adversity they experienced at Texas is why most of them were prepared to enter the workforce to play another game.

Kirsten Dodd published the result of a research piece for the Resource Development at United Way of Calgary on November 19, 2015, titled “Why a Former Student-Athlete Will Be Your Best Employee.”
Kristen Dodd says, “Student-athletes may not have the most impressive resume, the most work experience, or the highest grades,” but they know how to play the game of life and should be given a chance to prove themselves on the business playing field.
Playing college sports enhances "emotional intelligence and adaptability," and learning to prepare for a game is "transferrable to the workforce. “Student-Athletes know how to accept feedback and adjust to a loss and turn it into fuel for success." Horns 🤘 UP!
