Dickie Johnston has passed away.
Dickie Johnston - HB: 6-0: 190
He is shown in the 1969 national championship team photo.
Many/most of you will probably not remember him, so his story is told from my perspective as his teammate.
Dickie had many qualities of his best friend, James Street. An easy smile, endless energy, charisma, and a free spirit persona. Like Street, people from all walks of life gravitated to Dickieβs personality and zest for life.
However, Dickie was no Opie from the Andy Griffin show; he chose to live life on the fringe where many in the mainstream did not adventure. The saying βRolling Stone gathers no moss.β defines Dickie. Dickie lived life to the fullest as a Rollingstone who was grounded in life by his many friends.
THE REAL ROLLING STONES
With the Rollingstones, Dickie was in his element. (the photos and comments below were sent to me by some Of Dickieβs friends.)

Sometimes when the Stones traveled, the band bought Dickie an airline ticket so he could join them on tour. Sometimes he was gone for a month.
Dan says βsometime in the late 70s Dickie mailed a Christmas card to my parents house. On the card was a photo of Dickie standing with Mick Jagger. Jagger was dressed in drag wearing an Asian dress and black wig. The card simply said " it's only rock and roll. Merry Christmas " ...... my mother's only comment was " Hmm, I hate to say it but Dickie's Asian girlfriend is not very attractive".
