AKERS, Danny Johns

Danny Johns Akers, 54, son of former University of Texas football coach Fred Akers and Diane Akers, went to be with the Lord on January 24, 2016 at home in Horseshoe Bay, Texas after an inspiring and incredible battle with cancer. He was surrounded by family and loved ones and was at peace.
Danny was born on January 10, 1962 in Port Arthur, Texas but called Austin his home from early childhood. He was a decorated quarterback and graduate of McCallum High School and played football under the tutelage of his father and mentor at the University of Texas. He began his professional career working with Lou Tice at The Pacific Institute in Seattle, Washington. It was there that he started his family and began raising three amazing children.
In the latter part of his life, he was able to channel the strength of his mindset to overcome circumstances. He refused to affirm his diagnosis, sought out alternative methods of healing and lived for 4 very full and purposeful years through prayer, love of family, nutrition and mind over matter. He loved the Lord and was a dedicated servant of people, and his love of others rings true to all who knew him.
The family would like to thank all of the friends who have written, called and reached out in love for Danny. There will be a memorial service on Saturday, February 20, 2016 at noon at Riverbend Church in Austin. Prior to the service, 10am-11:30am will be fellowship with friends and family.
Should you be inclined to send flowers, the family politely requests white flowers and or greenery. In lieu of flowers, a charitable donation may be made to Team Focus at Life Austin Church, an organization for fatherless boys and one that Danny felt particularly connected to.
