I am an orthopedic surgeon in the North Dallas suburban area who has had the privilege of knowing Terry for nearly three decades. Though a physical giant of a man, he was the polar opposite of intimidating; and made it a point to never boast about his college stardom or NFL fame. The only thing about which he failed to show humility was his treasured family. He unfailingly treated our mutual patients/clients with care, empathy, and respect, and was always there for my wife and myself when we most needed him. He was both a colleague and a friend who made the world a better place.

Tausch signed with Texas in 1977 and was a redshirt freshman in coach Fred Akers' first season as head coach. Tausch was selected by the Minnesota Vikings playing seven seasons (1982-88) and ending his career as a Super Bowl Champion in 1989 playing for the Joe Montana led San Francisco 49ers.

His brother said "He was a great guy," and “do anything for anybody. He was just a kind-hearted person. When he came back to New Braunfels to visit, he always got together with all of his friends. He never forgot where he was from.

Lawrence Sampleton remembers his teammate.

“He was a big guy, but he was a soft-spoken man and just really cared about everybody. He was a gentle kind of leader who worked hard every day and was a great example for all of us younger guys.” “I always remember Coach (Leon) Manley, who was a really tough offensive line coach, and everyone knew that Coach Manley respected Terry so much and just loved him,” Sampleton added.

“He would never get on Terry. He got on everyone else, but Terry Tausch, and that’s just the kind of respect a lot of people had for Terry. The thing I remember most about Terry is his work ethic, how he treated everyone around him, and his ability to gain the respect of coaches, teammates and fans, alike.

During Terry’s four years as a Longhorn the team compiled a 35-12-1 record.

It is with great sorrow and sadness that I am sharing the news of my business partner and best friend’s passing. Terry Tausch passed away suddenly on the evening of March 25th. He was a great man that I learned so much from. He was a wonderful husband to his wife Ela, a great father to his sons Nick and Eric and a true friend to all he met. He counted his customers as friends and he worked hard for everyone. Medicos will miss him so much. I especially have not will have a truer friend and confidante.

Someone I respected and looked up to as a teen, died tonight. He wasn’t that old... his name was Terry Tausch. He played football on the O-line for Texas and then had a career in the NFL with the Vikings... it hit me really hard
