First base – Jeff Ontiveros (1999-2002) was selected to the all-Longhorn sports history team because he was the career leader in games played, games started, at-bats, and total bases. Jeff followed single and career home run hitter Kyle Russell in the hypothetical batting order. Jeff was second in both of these categories.

Defensively, he has three of the top eight single-season double plays turned totals, making him a reliable fielder at first base.

Jeff was the first Longhorn in school history to hit 20 home runs in a single season for Texas as part of the 2002 National Champions.

If there was one moment in time that I would remember you the most, it was when I was at a low point in my life. A boy homeless, starving, and out late walking to find shelter for the night..

A guy in a truck stops and looks at me, calling me by my name, I turn around to look inside, and it was you uncle Jeff Ontiveros. I looked at you and asked how did you know it was me? You replied

"nephew I'm your uncle and even though our family's aren't close due to reason out of our control you are still part of my family"

you took me to a friends house and gave me whatever money you had in your wallet, that day i saw you as more than just a uncle but as my Hero.

Awww…Jeff Ontiveros, this is such hard news to accept. We all grew up together. You were my little brother’s age, but I always remember you as the “Teddy Bear”. Always with a smile, hugs, and genuine personality (even tho I wanted nothing to do with you boys at that time…lol). I still remember us riding bikes to play ball in the field next to the Y.

You carried yourself that way all through life.

RIP. You will be greatly remembered.
