First base – Jeff Ontiveros (1999-2002) was selected to the all-Longhorn sports history team because he was the career leader in games played, games started, at-bats, and total bases. Jeff followed single and career home run hitter Kyle Russell in the hypothetical batting order. Jeff was second in both of these categories.

Defensively, he has three of the top eight single-season double plays turned totals, making him a reliable fielder at first base.
Jeff was the first Longhorn in school history to hit 20 home runs in a single season for Texas as part of the 2002 National Champions.

Summer Pavliska I am so saddened by this news. If you went to school in RR, you went to school with an Ontiveros…and Jeff was my age. This is just heartbreaking!!

When I got the news late yesterday, I didn't want to believe it. This one hurt!!! I remember when you first walked into The Hitting Zone, you became a part of our family instantly. We are blessed to have shared some great times together. I'm going miss your big bear hugs and your huge laugh. Heaven got a good one. Love you man RIP Jeff Ontiveros

Jeff was someone I grew up idolizing as a high school standout, then a college leader, then a teammate who provided all of us with his blend of absolute toughness and beautiful love for the game. He is a Longhorn Legend Champion and made all those around him better. RIP

I can’t believe you are gone, I am blessed to have had the opportunity to play for Jeff. My uncle Rudy took Blake and me down to spend the weekend with him and play some good baseball. It was one of the best weekends I had all summer, We laughed, ate good food, and played some ball. Prayers for the Ontiveros family. Hook’ em
